The first animals domesticated for agriculture were for meat. Other agricultural purposes for animals (wool, milk, eggs, etc.) came later. People from the Stone Age domesticated sheep, chickens, cows, goats and pigs for meat. Sherpas domesticated yaks for meat. Native Americans domesticated turkeys. In the Middle Ages, people domesticated ducks, geese, rabbits and pheasants, and even had peacock farms! Some other animals domesticated for meat on farms today are emus, ostriches, cassowaries and even crocodiles and alligators. Also, today, bullfrogs are farmed for meat from their legs. We also farm turtles for their meat.
